So today Angelina Jolie had double mastectomy, which is the removal of one’s breasts, to prevent Breast cancer. So instead of praising Angelina on her bravery, men on Twitter decided to ridicule her, even calling her stupid for removing her breasts. For those of you on Tumblr that are attacking Feminists about being delusional about sexism against women and misogyny here’s your fucking proof that sexism and misogyny exists.
This is distressing and awful to see this..
All of them can fuck the fuck off.
I want to stab all of them in the eye sockets
Well, I wasn’t expecting to feel so violent today.
FUCK THESE MEN IN THE DICKHOLE WITH DICED JALAPEÑO ON A RED HOT POKER
Ode to Spot - Data
“Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.”

The ramblings of that girl called Ebs: Mia Freedman: The Girl Who Cried Ignorant
Here’s a fun fact: every time an Australian “larrikin” oversteps the mark in terms of depictions of people of colour, we all have to tweet, write a blog, and engage in a conversation with our white peers about racism.
If by fun you mean batshit crazy.

What Traditional Marriage? By Talia Schaffer
Gay marriage supposedly interferes with “traditional marriage,” say its opponents. “We have at least 6,000 years of recorded history on our side,” remarked Kris Mineau, president of the conservative group Massachusetts Family Institute. People like Mineau assume that the traditional definition of the family is stable, unvarying and ancient. Yet nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the history of marriage is one of frequent, radical change. As a scholar studying the history of marriage in England over the last several hundred years, I can tell you that not only is there is no such thing as traditional marriage, but that gay marriage hardly even counts as a major change in the history of the institution. It is in fact the logical next step in two centuries of evolution.
…
Today we live under the rule of romantic marriage, and within its logic, gay marriage is perfectly conventional. The enormous, shocking, paradigm-changing moments in the history of marriage occurred in the seventeenth century (consensual marriage) and the nineteenth century (romantic marriage). Now that we’ve got modern marriage, gay marriage is, or should be, no big deal at all.
anonymous asked: How do you respond to a white person who feigns colorblindness (“I don’t see race”)?
THEN WHY AREN’T YOU MORE CURIOUS ABOUT HUGE PARTS OF THE POPULATION BEING SYSTEMATICALLY MISTREATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON YOU FUCKING IDIOT
Brooke Magnanti responds to Mia Freedman’s rather shallow article about her on Mamamia, which I’m not linking here because I suspect Freedman wrote that piece to bait us all and get more traffic for her site. Which seems to be the current mode of journalism these days. You can read the article from Magnanti’s own article if you like. I did make the mistake though of reading some of the comments on Freedman’s article. I’m not surprised by the uncritical ass-kissing shown to Freedman by the vast majority of people who commented, or by their ignorance. I am however over sites like Mamamia offering us a pointless and superficial version of ‘feminism lite’. I’m sick of feminism being colonised by people like Freedman who frequently publish deliberately inflammatory pieces like tabloids and call it ‘feminism’. I agree with Magnanti when she questions Freedman’s sincerity. And no, all you exceptionally smart people calling Magnanti rude and pretentious on Mamamia, she is neither. She is articulate and intelligent and offers an informed opinion about a subject that many of us need to be informed about. That’s not ‘rude’, that’s using your brain and critical thinking skills. Something all of us should try more often.
